During his final few seasons in the side at St James’ Park, us Newcastle fans consistently said Jack Colback was a Championship player and simply too limited to cut it at Premier League level.
Fast forward a few years and Nottingham Forest fans think he’s ‘way too good’ for them, an ‘unbelievable player’ and someone who’s a ‘class above’ at that level.
Don’t get me wrong, I would never doubt someone saying Colback is a solid Championship player, but I must be missing something.
Here’s what Forest fans were saying after watching him back in the team during their 2-2 draw at West Brom last night:
As the tweet below shows, it appears he even has his own ‘fan page’ on Twitter:
He has done a great job at Forest and I can see why they’d like to keep him, but I’m struggling to see how him getting stuck in, running around a lot and ‘keeping it ticking’ with a few 5 to 10 yard passes suddenly makes them not worthy of a player like him – unless he’s suddenly turned into a totally different player over the last year that is..
That said, he’s picked up 11 yellow cards in 27 appearances so far this season, so it seems some things just haven’t changed at all.
Fair play to him for dusting himself off and getting his career back on track at Forest, but I really can’t see a world where he’s ‘far too good’ for the Championship.
