Kenedy has hinted that his second spell at St James’ Park has been a ‘failure’ but an experience he’s learned a lot from, stating “You learn more in failure than you will ever learn in success” during his latest Instagram post.
Considering how desperate so many of us were to have the Brazilian back after a successful loan spell last season, it’s an understatement to say his second stint on Tyneside has not gone to plan.
Here’s his latest post on Instagram (which we’ve translated from Portuguese to English), with him appearing to be in a honest and reflective mood after a miserable season on the sidelines:
He started the season disastrously, missing a last minute penalty to cap off a shocking display in a early-season stalemate at Cardiff and, in truth, it feels like he never recovered from that.
Aside from a brilliant cross to set up Rondon’s header at home to Bournemouth and a tidy finish in our away defeat at Old Trafford, the Chelsea man has failed to register any other goal or assist this season.
It’s been reported that his partner and new-born child have remained in London, so he may be homesick and struggling to feel settled after yet another loan spell, but his performances have made any permanent deal seem highly unlikely this summer.
That said, I’m sure most on Tyneside would wish him well should this be his final spell with the club. After all, the immediate impact he made over the second half of last season played a huge part in our surge to safety.
He clearly has ability, but a flair player like him with so many inconsistencies doesn’t strike me as the type Rafa would rushing to buy (or even sign on loan again) anytime soon.
