Great news – Key NUFC duo spotted back in training & both look set to start vs Brighton

Newcastle duo Fabian Schar and Isaac Hayden have been spotted back in training, suggesting both will be fit to face Brighton this weekend.

A hamstring injury has ruled Miguel Almiron out of our final three games , with Lejeune and Longstaff also suffering season-ending injuries in recently, however this is a timely boost for Benitez ahead of our run in.

Both Schar and Hayden were subbed off with knocks during Saturday’s win over Southampton, yet both appear to have bounced back quickly, with both taking part in a Wednesday morning sessions at the club’s training ground:

With Almiron injured, there will be at least one forced change for Benitez to make this weekend, but having Schar and Hayden fit will be a huge boost – with both being two of our top performers in 2019.

Here’s the side we can see starting against Brighton come 5.30pm on Saturday:

(3-4-2-1): Dubravka – Schar, Lascelles, Dummett – Manquillo, Hayden, Ki, Ritchie – Perez, Atsu – Rondon.

That looks the most likely side, however I would love to see Muto get his chance in Almiron’s absence – a player who’s shown promise on occasion but is yet to be handed a proper run in the side by Rafa.

  1. Can’t keep picking Ki. The games are passing him by and apart from one shot that has hit the post, he’s contributed very little to nothing.
We needed Shelvey to supply Miggy but that’s gone now, but Shelvey hasn’t gone from being the best player in the squad to not worth his place, that’s just nonsense.
Don’t know what’s gone on and frankly, don’t care. I just want the best eleven out there representing us and that includes Shelvey when he’s fit. And he’s fit now. Ki has been anonymous. Shelvey has shown more in his few cameo appearances and whether he and Rafa have had words is neither here nor there. If he can appear on the bench he can play. Give him until he tires and then bring off if needs be, but give us a chance and get him playing.
