Ex-Mag Joey Barton ended Sunderland’s automatic promotion hopes last night, with his Fleetwood Town side coming back from 1-0 down to beat the Mackems in the 95th minute.

With Sunderland starting the night SIX points behind 2nd place Barnsley last night, they had to beat Fleetwood Town to stand any chance of sealing automatic promotion back to the Championship – but they were denied thanks to a late comeback.

Barton said before the game that it would be “very pleasing to send them back with tears in their eyes” so it’ll be mission complete as far as he’s concerned, with Sunderland now needing to win the play-offs if they’re to bounce straight back up.
