Leeds Utd one of the ‘front-runners’ to secure bargain deal for NUFC midfielder – Report

Leeds United are one of the ‘front-runners’ to sign Mo Diame on a free transfer this summer, according to LeedsLive.

The Senegalese midfielder is out of contract this summer and although a one-year extension would be triggered if he starts our final TWO games of the season, it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll move on over the coming months.

Here’s a snippet from LeedsLive, suggesting they’re one of the favourites to sign him this summer:

“Leeds are believed to among the front-runners to sign Newcastle United’s midfield powerhouse Mo Diame on a free transfer”

He may turn 32 next month, but on a free he represents a real bargain for a club like Leeds – whether they’re pushing for promotion next season or back in the Premier League.

He’s had his ups and downs at Newcastle, going from a toothless number 10 to a defensive-minded midfield spoiler, but he’s been a good servant, being a player I still believe we should be looking to keep.

After all, if Hayden and Shelvey do leave this summer (something that looks very likely to me), then we’ll be extremely light on midfield options – not forgetting the fact we won’t get better than Diame if we were tasked to sign a a back-up defensive midfielder on a free.

That said, he’s found starts hard to come by of late and it’s reported that he’s had a request for a two-year deal turned down by the club, so maybe it will be his time to move on this summer.
