As confirmed by the Chronicle, Salomon Rondon will head back to West Brom on Monday, with the striker set to say his goodbyes to the Newcastle United squad straight after Sunday’s game at Fulham.
The Venezuelan has been absolutely outstanding this season, not only scoring 11 times in all competitions but bagging 8 assists, running the channels, battling for every ball and linking the play brilliantly.
He’s been a superb all round striker and looks at home at St James’ Park, but the reality of the situation is that he’ll be back with the Baggies this time next week.
Rondon wants to stay, Rafa is clearly keen to keep him and he’s already a popular figure amongst fans and players, so any deal to sign him this summer should be a no brainer – whether it’s £16.5m or £20m plus that we have to pay.
Charnley refused to rule out a permanent deal for the 29-year-old when speaking out about his future recently, but this should be a given based on his form this season, not a consideration.
Whether he’s approaching his 30’s or not, his goals, assists, experience and presence – both on and off the pitch – has been absolutely vital this season.
He may be returning to the Midlands on Monday, but Rondon is the first signing we must make if and when Rafa signs a new deal.
