According to L’Équipe, Newcastle United have made an approach over a potential deal to sign Reims winger Remi Oudin this summer.
The 22-year-old Frenchman has had an impressive season in Ligue 1, bagging 11 goals in all competitions along with 3 assists for 9th place Reims.
He’s been talked about as the ‘next Robin Van Persie’ by some in France – despite generally operating as a right-winger, not a striker – and is believed to be available for around €14m-€15m (£12-£13m) according to L’Equipe.
It’s reported that ourselves, Watford and Serie A side Fiorentina have now registered an interest in the 6ft 1′ attacker, with high-flying Lille also linked.
His age, alleged price-tag and potential suggest he’s the sort of player we’d look at based on Ashley’s tedious transfer model, however it’s safe to say we won’t be making any concrete moves for players until Rafa’s future is sorted out.
That said, Rafa will be assessing the options available to him should he stay this summer, with it looking more and more like a certain Ayoze Perez will need replacing over the coming months (and Oudin operates in the same position).
