Isaac Hayden says Mike Ashley came into the Newcastle dressing room to thank everyone after Sunday’s 4-0 win at Fulham – also shaking the hand of each and every player after our 13th place Premier League finish.
The Newcastle midfielder also admits that the Las Vegas trip, promised by Ashley, has been ‘called off’ – despite the fact a ‘few of the lads’ were planning to go on it.
Here’s what Hayden’s had to say about Ashley, stating that he’s now ‘making an effort and trying to do the right things’:
“I think it was called off. I wasn’t too privy to it as I had already booked my holidays a couple of months ago. I think a few of the lads were going to go on it but it was cancelled,”
“To be fair Mike Ashley came into the dressing room, shook everybody’s hand and said thanks for the season, we said thanks back.
“He is making an effort and trying to do the right things.”
Hayden mentions that he’s now ‘making an effort’ and ‘trying to do the right things’, however these one-off gestures and cameo appearances mean absolutely nothing if he doesn’t agree to show ambition and hand Rafa Benitez a new deal he’s willing to sign.
Regarding the Vegas trip, I did think several players would’ve already made plans – after all they are all millionaires who will have lavish holiday’s booked elsewhere – however it’s a little off to hear that Ashley’s cancelled when a few payers were planning to go.
Either way, forget dressing room handshakes, end of season ‘well done’s’ and trips to Vegas – the one big move he must make is agreeing to Rafa Benitez’s contract demands.
