Ex-NUFC star speaks out about Mike Ashley meeting – “Rafa is waiting for answers”

Nobby Solano believes Rafa Benitez has been left ‘waiting for answers’ from Mike Ashley for too long, with talk of any new deal continuing to drag on – despite the fact we were mathematically safe a month ago now.

The former Newcastle winger also believes Rafa must know exactly how much investment Ashley is prepared to make before signing a new deal, with cast iron assurances now essential after two seasons of empty promises.

It was confirmed that both the Spaniard and the Sports Direct owner had met in London to hold crunch talks at the back end of last week, but we are still awaiting any news almost 5 days on.

Here’s what Nobby has had to say about it all during his chat with the Chronicle this week:

“I believe Rafa will want to know how ambitious they are and how much investment Mike Ashley is prepared to make.”

“The transfer window is open. The talks really should have taken place before now and this should have been done.”

“They have missed out on some targets. They need to push forward quickly.”

“The summertime is a busy period and if you are too slow you know what happens.”

“You also need to think of the fan base and keep them happy.”

“The most important thing in Newcastle is football. Mike needs to recognise that. They just want to have a good team.”

“Things have been made hard for Rafa. Without it, nothing can move on.”

“Rafa is waiting for the answers.”

He’***** the nail on the head, although it seems clear now that everyone from the outside looking in knows exactly what needs to happen here.

Lose Rafa and this club loses hope, direction, several of our star players, numerous season ticket holders and quite possibly our place in the Premier League next summer.

The transfer window has already begun and the clock is ticking.

It’s not a difficult decision, Mike. Get it done.
