Martin Dubravka has stressed that he is ‘happy’ at Newcastle and ‘not interested’ in speaking about a potential move away – despite receiving interest from several Champions League clubs.
This is encouraging news, with the Slovakian stopper having been absolutely outstanding over the past 18 months.
He hit the ground running after arriving on loan last January and has been one of our most consistent performers over the 2018/19 season, keeping 11 clean sheets after signing permanently for just £4.5m last summer.
The Chronicle claim that a host of Champions League clubs are now tracking him, with Juventus said to be one of them, but, if these comments are anything to go by, he has no interest in leaving:
“I will not think about it. I just focus on my job here,”
“I have heard some rumours, but I’m not interested in even speaking about it. I was just focused on my job here.
“What happens in the summer is up to the people in the office.
“I’m happy here – I’m playing every week and enjoying myself.”
Considering all the uncertainty surrounding Rafa Benitez’s future, with Rondon and Perez also at risk of playing elsewhere next season, it’s great to hear this from Dubravka.
He’s been a class act both on and off the pitch and has fast become one of our top players – something few would’ve seen coming given he was relatively unknown in the world of football prior to his big move from the Czech Republic’s first division.
Hopefully he’s one of many who will commit his immediate future to the club this summer!
