Ayoze Perez set to complete big money move away from NUFC – Dubious report

According to reports in Italy, Ayoze Perez is set to complete a £25m move to Tottenham over the coming weeks.

This comes from calcionapoli24.it, who also claim that Perez’s ‘release clause’ is £27m – a fee just £2m more than the figure they claim Spurs will pay to sign him this summer.

They report that Mauricio Pochettino has wanted to sign the Spaniard for years, stating that he tried and failed to bring the forward to North London three years ago.

I’m taking this one with a pinch of salt for a variety of reasons.

Firstly, would he agree to a move away at a time where it looks very possible that a rich and ambitious billionaire takes over the club, meaning we’re likely to keep Benitez and finally start spending in the transfer window?

Secondly, would a deal like this be agreed at a time where there’s so much uncertainty off the pitch, with the status of both our owner and manager up in the air as things stand?

And finally, Italian outlets have been anything but reliable when it comes to transfer claims. Not only that, it seems a little odd that an Italian source would pick up on a deal between two English clubs – even if Napoli are said to be one of the clubs keen to sign him this summer.

Time will tell, but I have my doubts about this one – even if it would not surprise me if Perez did secure a big money move away from the club over the coming month or two.
