Norwich City want Dwight Gayle – but NUFC’s alleged asking price may put them off..

According to the Daily Mail, newly-promoted Norwich City are considering a summer move for Dwight Gayle.

It was reported in the Evening Standard last week that Fulham had shown interest. A £20m asking price was mentioned – suggesting the Canaries may have to pay big money if they plan to sign the 28-year-old this summer.

A few days on and the Mail claim that Gayle has been identified as an ‘option’ for Daniel Farke – with him likely to have been left impressed by the 24-goal season he’s just enjoyed with West Brom.

A move to Norwich may well appeal to Gayle, offering him a chance to prove himself at Premier League level after several prolific stints in the second tier, however I have my doubts about their ability to match our alleged £20m asking price.

Strangely, £20m may seem a much better deal for a Championship club than a newly promoted Premier League side.

Why? Because his track record of scoring 20 plus goals and pushing teams towards promotion is impressive in the second division, suggesting he’s worth the investment, however his Premier League record is 20 goals in 100 games – suggesting he’s a 7-8 goal per-season striker in the top flight.

Will Norwich take the risk? If a £20m asking price is true, I can see them looking elsewhere.
