NUFC keen to sign Aaron Mooy – Huddersfield set asking price but 6 clubs ‘in the mix’ – Report

According to the The World Game, Newcastle are one of several clubs keen to sign Huddersfield star Aaron Mooy this summer.

The reputable Australian outlet claim that Huddersfield are set to demand £20m for their star midfielder – a fee we may be reluctant to pay given Mooy turns 29 in September.

That said, he’s not looked out of place in the Premier League over the past two seasons, despite Huddersfields struggles, and it will also be argued that midfield reinforcements are essential this summer with Hayden, Shelvey and Diame all at risk of leaving.

It seems we aren’t the only ones interested, however, with the report below claiming Wolves, Leicester, Southampton, West Ham and Watford are also in the mix to sign the former Man City man.

The World Game claim he’s almost certain to move on this summer as Terriers owner Phil Hodgkinson can’t afford to keep the club’s biggest earner, not forgetting the fact he’ll be reluctant to drop back down to the Championship after proving his worth at Premier League level.

Given his mix of discipline, tenacity and technical ability, I can see him being a player Benitez would consider – especially as a Jonjo Shelvey replacement – however any transfers may need to be put on hold until Rafa’s contract situation and any potential takeover becomes clearer.

  1. £20m asking price is because Town don’t want to sell. Where this notion that we can’t afford to keep him has come from I have no idea as all our signings were made with an eye to relegation and not being forced to sell.
