17-goal striker ‘prefers’ to join NUFC this summer – but only on one condition – Report

Despite claims that Wesley Moraes is ‘closing in’ on a move to Lazio, the Chronicle say a ‘source close to the striker’ has told them he prefers a move to Newcastle…IF Rafa Benitez remains in charge.

This comes after Calciomercato claimed today that the Club Brugge star was edging closer to a €18m to Italy, however it’s been revealed in the Chronicle’s live blog this afternoon that Newcastle is his preferred destination.

That said, it seems the Brazilian’s potential move to Tyneside could be dependant on Rafa Benitez – giving us more proof why it’s vital we keep a hold of the Spaniard this summer.

It was reported by the Chronicle last week that Rafa had contacted the 22-year-old striker over a potential move and the player’s agent also confirmed our interest last week – with he too suggesting that Benitez’s future would play a big part in any deal.

Wesley may not be a hugely high-profile or marquee signing, but there’s no denying that Benitez can play a big part when it comes to us attracting certain players or convincing them to join us over rival bidders.

The 6ft 3′ striker bagged 17 goals and 10 assists last season and has also been linked with West Ham.

One to watch this summer – especially if Rafa signs a new deal!
