Journalists getting giddy after takeover talk – Three new links that seem horrifically far fetched

Takeover talk is absolutely rife.

There are Journalists “in the know”, some who just make it up and the rest are all just getting a bit giddy and making silly comments or linking us to unrealistic transfers / appointments .

Here are some of my favourites from the past week:

Arsene Wenger/ Jose Mourinho

This report from the Mirror made me chuckle, suggesting Sheikh Khaled would sack off Rafa and go for one of the out of work ex-Chelsea and Arsenal legends. This would not go down well.

We have a world class manager who knows the club well and has a proven track record of winning trophies. So why replace him with either Wenger, who doesn’t appear to have the appetite for the game anymore, or Mourinho who now seems to lose the dressing room everywhere he goes?

Davinson Sanchez £60m:

This is my favourite and I would like to thank the guys over at Soccer Souls for brightening my morning with this one. Sanchez is a cracking player no doubt about it. Here is my problem though…if you count Dummett we have 6 centre halves at the toon and they range from solid to exceptional in ability.

Our centre-back options and depth in this position have to be one of the best outside the top 6 (if not in the top 6!) so spending silly money on Sanchez would seem nonsensical.

Then there’s the ‘£60m’ fee. That’s three Almiron’s for a defender we don’t need. If I had £60mil to spend on a Tottenham player, I would be going for Lucas Moura!

Mario Fernandes £24m

This one is great fun. I’m sure Fernandes is a very good player even if his stats are fluffed up a bit by playing in a weak Russian league. However, most of us have never heard of him, he’s never played in one of Europe’s top leagues and that apparently justifies £24mil for a 28 year old full back.

I would like to think that £24m gets you someone younger and/or playing in a better league. Jetro Willems and Stanley N’Soki are both apparently available for around half that figure.

To top it all off, the Sun reckoned this could be our team next season if a takeover went through..(sigh*..).

  1. Where to start with that team sheet. Lejeune is ahead of Lascelles for me, Fernandes and Willens play on opposite sides. McNeil has potential but isn’t getting in our team ahead of Longstaff. If we are flush with cash then a perma injured Welbeck and a past it Torres are very unlikely to be leading our lines.
As for the management situation, if the supposed quotes from BZG representatives are correct they want Rafa to remain.
