Newcastle set to sign Chelsea youngster – Announcement expected next month – Report

Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott will sign for Newcastle United next month according to the Sun.

The report reveals that the midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the month, and claims he’ll head straight to St James’ Park to sign on a free transfer in July.

Scott, 21, has been on the books at Stamford Bridge since the age of 10 and has made one appearance for their senior side, coming on from the bench in their FA Cup win over Hull in February last year.

Here’s a snippet from Warren Haughton’s piece for the Sun, claiming that Scott looks set to become our first signing of the summer:

“Kyle Scott has been handed a Premier League lifeline by Newcastle.

“The 21-year-old midfielder will officially leave Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of the month and could head straight to St James’ Park.

“Scott has been with the Blues since the age of ten but failed to make the breakthrough into the first-team despite being on the bench for the opening three games of the 2017/18 campaign during Antonio Conte’s second year in the hot seat.”

“Toon boss Rafa Benitez is ready to take a punt on the schemer who helped Chelsea win the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League twice during his 11 years at Stamford Bridge.”

Scott is a versatile midfielder, being able to play in a holding or attacking role.

He’s bagged 2 goals and 8 assists in 41 games for Chelsea’s U-23’s and has spent the first half of last season on loan with Dutch second tier side SC Telstar, scoring twice in 14 appearances.

Time will tell if this one’s true, although it would be just like Mike Ashley’s Newcastle to sign a youngster on a free before sorting out Rafa Benitez’s future.

  1. Business below the first team seems to be going on as usual under Academy Director Ben Dawson. The announcement of former makem head of coaching Mark Atkinson and now the recruitment would suggest Rafa’s request for the overhaul of the academy is underway.
