A NUFC takeover – No one has a clue what’s actually going on..

Being a Newcastle supporter these days is like being the mangy dog that just wants something nice to happen but instead just gets kicked. Whenever something positive looks like it may happen for us there is always an army of journalists waiting to whack us on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and tell us to “behave”.

As the tweet below highlights, it feels like the local press are trying their best to get any inside info, where as so many of the national papers are probably using the fact we’re desperate for news to make up any old story which gets big views.

Does anyone actually have any idea what’s really going on? I’m not sure given all the claims, counter claims and contradictions that have come our way over the past week.

We must also not forget that both Mike Ashley and Newcastle United are staying tight-lipped on just about everything right now, so any updates feel like educates guesses from the press; who are just doing their jobs after all.

When Justin Allen (The Sun) broke the story about the BZG group I will be the the first to admit I got a little excited. After signing Messi and Ronaldo in my head I went in search of more information where I came across the good old Guardian. The journalist (whose name escapes me), who in my head looks like an 80s Maths Teacher complete with elbow patches and doesn’t have mates but instead has “chums”, was quick to rubbish these claims.

He cited the “no comment” from the club as all the evidence we need with the subtext of “you’re not going to believe The Sun are you?”.

Despite Justin Allen pretty much staking his reputation on this with further claims of everything he said being “fact”. The Guardians stance appears to be unchanged, but if you read more closely between the lines you will see it says something along the lines of “We down south in King’s landing reject any claims of a new king of the North. The North is full of wildlings and white walkers and Sheikh Khaled Stark will never be king…blah blah blah Winter Fell…blah blah blah dragon’s.”

To my surprise The Chronicle also seem to be doing their fair share of naysaying. They reckon there’s still been no bid – despite BZG speaking like it’s almost a done deal. I have always enjoyed Lee Ryders articles as he always seems to present an optimistically balanced view. However upon closer inspection the author of the latest article was in fact Craig John’s. Let me share his profile with you..

“Craig is a sports writer with a passion for all northeast football and combat sports. He is from Sunderland and has been with us since 2014”

I’m not going to be relying on Craig for unbiased news on the Toon. He should move on really as Sunderlands biggest Derby games now are likely to be Hartlepool and Gateshead.

Thing have been very quiet over the past few days and the above pulls together what several outlets were claiming on Sunday.

From now on I will be more selective in who I rely upon for takeover news mostly selecting those who tell me what I want to hear.

Hoping for good news soon..

Howay the lads!

  1. That’s how it should be, kept private until good to go. The fans may not like it but that’s how things should be done instead of lazy hacks spouting garbage all over the internet
