Laughable NUFC transfer ‘exclusive’ emerges – This is bad…even by The Sun’s standards

According to the Sun, Rafa Benitez is eyeing a £6m deal to bring Crystal Palace veteran Scott Dann to St James’ Park this summer.

We know to take transfer stories with a pinch of salt right now – for obvious reasons – but this one is laughable, even by the Sun’s low standards.

Firstly, it’s been made quite clear that Mike Ashley will be reverting back to a transfer blue-print which asks Benitez to bring in players under the age of 26 who have high potential and even bigger sell on value. Dan is 32 and injury prone – and £6m is hardly a snip.

Secondly, we have several centre-back options, with it arguably being our most impressive area of the pitch in terms of both quality and depth. Even if Rafa was allowed the odd exception when it comes to signing a player over the age of 26, I’m pretty sure he’d go and activate Salomon Rondon’s £16.5m release clause before signing Scott Dann – a player who would be 4th or 5th choice at best.

The list could go on.

If we’re going to sign a centre-back this summer, I imagine it’ll be a young player with potential who’ll come in for Clark (who probably needs a move away to get regular first team football) and learn from the likes of Schar, Lejeune, Lascelles and Fernandez.

  1. The Sun. They break the news of the takeover, then come up with this nonsense. Difficult to take them serious really.

  2. TAKEOVER what Takeover this is the biggest pile of bile yet from our ARSEHOLE owner.

ASHLEY is playing games again with NO intention of selling.

ASHLEY IS THE WORST FOOTBALL CLUB OWNER IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.
