Mo Diame has sent a message to Newcastle fans ahead of his seemingly imminent summer exit, saying he’s “loved every minute” of his time on Tyneside and will ‘always be a magpie!’.
Newcastle United released their official retained list yesterday afternoon, confirming that Mo Diame would leave the club once his current contract expired on the 30th of June.
Here’s what he’s had to say in a message to the Toon Army today:
“I’d just like to say I have loved every minute of my time here.
“Once a magpie, always a magpie!”
It’s been suggested in the Chronicle that there’s a slim chance he’ll re-enter talks over a contract extension, but only if a new manager arrives and wants him in his first-team plans, so it does feel like his time at St James’ Park is over.
He endured a struggling start to life on Tyneside and took time to find his feet in the side, but he played a big part in our promotion back to the Premier League and his superb form from central midfield over the second half of the 2017/18 season was key to our survival.
His best days may be behind him, but we’ll miss the dirty work he’s done so well in recent seasons.
Good luck Mo – one of our best servants in the Rafa Benitez era.
