Mourinho rumours emerge & report claims NUFC have bid £17m for striker – Silly season is back..

It’s been another quiet weekend as far as updates on Rafa’s future and a proposed takeover are concerned, but there’s been two big claims made by the press over the past 24 hours.

Firstly, according to an exclusive from the Mirror’s John Richardson, Jose Mourinho is ‘ready to talk’ to Sheikh Khaled and ‘keen’ to take the job on Tyneside should his takeover attempt at Newcastle be successful.

The piece claims he’d be keen to take on the job at Newcastle United, with him said to be the Bin Zayed Group’s preferred manager should they complete a takeover.

That said, the same piece reckons Ashley is still yet to see proof of funds – something which doesn’t add up given the BZG’s latest statement confirmed these were given in mid-April; a claim the Ashley camp is yet to deny.

Then to the transfer news coming from France, with L’Equipe claiming we are one of several clubs to have an offer in the region of £17-£22m rejected for French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to St James’ Park while at Lyon last year, however he’s now gone on to score 14 goals in Germany with Mainz – and it’s being claimed in France that we were one of FIVE British clubs to have failed with bids for him this summer.

Considering Rafa’s future and a potential takeover is still up in the air, I doubt we’re making such offers.

It’s been reported that no business will be done while uncertainty remains over Rafa’s future, this makes no sense – even if Mateta looks like the sort of young, high potential player we’d look.

Bi claims, but I for one far prefer the idea of Rafa and Rondon re-signing this summer – not Mourinho and Mateta.

As we approach mid-June, it’s time for less talk and more action regarding all things at NUFC.

  2. The take over would certainly be the best way forward for NUFC. With mourinho and cash to fortify squad, sky is the beginning for NUFC.
