Ex-NUFC star set for Middlesbrough – Just 24 hours after Williamson gets Gateshead job

Some breaking news emerged from Sky Sports late last night, confirming former Newcastle centre-back Jonathan Woodgate is set to be appointed the new manager of Middlesbrough.

This comes less than 24 hours after fellow ex-NUFC centre-back Mike Williamson got the manager’s job at Gateshead.

The 39-year-old, who signed at St James’ Park for £9m over 16 years ago now, has been in talks on Teeside for several weeks, but Sky now claim that he’s set to take over ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Sky recently claimed that Slavisa Jokanovic was also interviewed for the job late last month, but it looks like Woodgate has beaten the former Fulham boss to the post.

He’ll replace Tony Pulis, with the former Stoke City boss leaving Boro last month after failing to get the Smoggies into the play-off positions last season.

Good luck to both Woodgate and Williamson, two former Newcastle defenders who are now at the helm at two north-east clubs.
