According to reports in Rome, Lazio are weighing up a shock bid for Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles.
This comes from LazioNews24, but should be taken with a pinch of salt given A) they claim he’s valued at €16m (£14.2m) and B) the fact I just couldn’t see Jamaal quitting the Premier League for a side who just finished 8th in Serie A.
Nevertheless, the report claims Lazio have identified Lascelles as a target this summer, with them also said to be looking at Braga’s Bruno Viana and Hoffenheim defender Kevin Vogt.
It’s suggested that they could offer January target Jordan Lukaku to ‘sweeten the deal’, however I don’t really see us going back in for the Belgian international given he failed a medical just a few months ago.
Lazio may have won the Coppa Italia last season, meaning they’ll be playing in the Europa League last season, but I’d be shocked if they were willing to stump up the fee we’d likely demand for Lascelles.
After all, our asking price is likely to be double the £14m mentioned by LazioNews24 .
