“Newcastle are showing interest” – Agent says NUFC want to sign David Okereke

The agent of Nigerian forward David Okereke has claimed that Newcastle are ‘showing interest’ in a deal to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old this summer.

The Sun initially reported our interest in the £8m-rated Spezia attacker a month ago, claiming we had been impressed by his 10-goal, 12-assist season in Serie B, however the player’s agent himself is now claiming we’re keen to sign him.

Here’s what Ben Itorho – Okereke’s representative – has had to say today about the forward’s future, claiming we are one of the club’s who want to sign him this summer:

’’Southampton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle are showing interest but there are other clubs who want him. Club Brugge, Genk and Sassuolo have strong interest in him.

“They want Okereke in the Premier League but the player has to take a decision with his footballing future in mind.”

Premier League rivals Southampton and Crystal Palace are also mentioned, along with Belgian duo Club Brugge and Genk and Serie A side Sassuolo, although he suggests the player prefers a move to England.

Okereke can play up top or out wide and was involved in 22 goals in 30 appearances for Spezia in Serie B last season.

It’s hard to know if this is his agent trying to whip up interest, but the fact he’s named us as one of the clubs in the mix (a month after the initial transfer link) suggests there might be something in this one.
