According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle have been in touch with Southampton to enquire about a potential move for Matt Targett.
The Saints have told Targett that he’s free to leave this summer for the right price, with him likely to look elsewhere now the club are keeping first-choice left-back Ryan Bertrand.
TEAMtalk also claim that Liverpool and Arsenal have made enquiries about the 23-year-old, with Leicester, Aston Villa and Fulham also credited with interest.
Targett was actually a player Rafa Benitez tried to sign two years ago, but a deal for the England U-21 international fell through in August 2017:
Given our need for a left-back and the fact Benitez has shown interest in the past, this link could be true, however it could also be an easy story to fabricate for the exact same reasons.
Time will tell, but no spending is going to take place this summer until we know what’s going on with both Benitez and the Bin Zayed Group’s takeover ‘bid’.
Well hope its better than the previous deal Lazaar, who has never played much at all, obviously fell out with the manager, if your face doesn’t fit you are out on your ear, there are quite a few Mitrovic Colback, the first goalie he signed, Mbemba etc etc even the last left back brought in on loan at a cost who has never even played at all.
