Mo Diame ‘agrees’ staggering £100k-a-week transfer – Report

According to the Sun’s Mike McGrath, Mo Diame is all set to sign a two-year deal with Qatar side Al-Gharafa after being offered a £100,000-a-week.

The proposed move will see him play alongside ex-Manchester City winger Vladimír Weiss in the Qatar Stars League, with Diame clearly keen to secure one last big pay-day when his current NUFC contract expires on June 30th.

Here’s a snippet from the Sun’s latest piece, claiming Diame has now agreed to sign a lucrative new deal with Al-Gharafa:

MO DIAME has agreed a lucrative two-year deal with Al-Gharafa in Qatar.

The ex-Newcastle midfielder has landed £100,000-a-week wages to play in the Middle East after a decade in English football.

iame, 31, ran down his contract at St James’ Park and Toon chiefs failed to match the terms and length of his deal.

Al-Gharafa are looking to bolster their midfield after finishing eighth in the Qatar Stars League last season.

They targeted Diame as part of their overhaul for next season, with boss Christian Gourcuff leaving and considering retirement.

I would’ve been happy to see him sign a new deal at St James’ Park and reckon Rafa would’ve been keen to keep him around for another season, but you can’t knock him for leaving if he’s been offered over £5m-per-year in the Middle East.

He turned 32 last week and, although I believe he still has another year or two in him at a decent level, his move to Qatar makes sense from a financial perspective; especially when footballers have such short careers.

Good luck big Mo!
