I’m sure you’ve seen THAT stunning assist a few times by now, but a brilliant compilation video has emerged showing what an electric all round performance it was from of Miguel Almiron as he ran Argentina ragged earlier this week.
After seeing his Paraguay side draw 2-2 with Qatar in their opening Copa America group match, the 25-year-old played a huge part in his country’s 1-1 draw with Argentina in the early hours on Wednesday, with his lively display and world class assist keeping their hopes of staying in the tournament alive.
Here’s his highlights from the game, with him showing superb pace, energy and vision as he causes the Argentines all sorts of problems:
I quite enjoyed the famous last words from the commentator 45 seconds in – “He’s hardly had a touch so far tonight this boy Miguel Almiron” – especially when he goes on to bag one of the assists of the tournament moments later.
A lot was made of his magic assist, but the footage above shows how just what an electric all round performance it was from the Newcastle United star.
It may be hard to feel excited about the new season right now, with overwhelming fears Rafa could leave and uncertainty over a potential takeover, however watching this lad week in week out could be a real joy if his Copa America form is anything to go by.
Next up for Miguel is Colombia tomorrow, with Paraguay knowing a win will see them qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.
