Guillem Balague exposes Mike Ashley after breaking news confirms Rafa Benitez exit

Guillem Balague – a good friend of Rafa’s – has revealed how Mike Ashley had ‘no real interest’ in keeping Benitez at the club following news of the Spaniard’s exit at Newcastle United.

The Spanish reporter states that Newcastle did not communicate with Rafa, giving ‘delayed answers’ during talks and also issued ‘false promises’ – with him also claiming that they offered terms which did not come close to rewarding the work done by Benitez.

Here’s what Balague has had to say on Twitter in the last few moments after an official statement from the club confirmed Rafa Benitez’s departure:

“I have the impression that for some unfathomable reason there was not real interest in keeping him. Including renewal offers with no real reflection on the work done, delayed answers and false promises.

“Foreign teams will be knocking his door, but it will be a miss for the Premier League.”

This sounds just like Mike Ashley – a man who has always cared more about the bottom line than Newcastle, and Rafa’s exit proves that once again.

No one is bigger than Newcastle United, but Mike Ashley is doing his best to drive this club into the ground.

  1. Ashley and his minions just have NO idea how to run a football club and now ‘we’re’ losing our biggest asset… I’ve been boycotting nufc for over 10 years anyway, but no doubt ‘fans’ will still continue to line his pockets! The only way to hit the fcb is where it hurts! A COMPLETE SHAMBLES OF A CLUB DESERVES A TOTAL BOYCOTT WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT!!!

  3. TBH , Rafa is a bit dodge in the transfer market. Even at LFC, he had plenty misses with players. Overpaying for talent.

  4. The next thing we’ll hear is that the takeover is not going ahead.
If EVERY fan wrote to the FA and bombarded Chi Onwurah to again lobby the Minister for Sport we might just be heard.
What we CAN’T do is just keep on trotting into St. James giving this leech our unqualified support and having useless, spineless moans in the media.

  5. @taken4mugs of course the take over isnt happening, if it were then rafa would be staying, they have NO MONEY…. they tried this at Liverpool and couldnt even put a 25 mil down payment or provide proof of funds… face it we’re going down this season, have no doubt that the squad without Benitez coaching them is not good enough for the premier league, the only other time ive seen a club in such a mess was Coventry City and look where they are now, i hope im wrong but i am fast losing faith

  6. As someone who does not go to Newcastle football I can see that the only thing that would upset Ashley is money and Y lever people buy the kit which is now the most expensive with the Premier League you keep going to his matches you buy his beer and his food then he’s laughing at you and is full of **** anyway empty promises no surprise there hit him where it hurts and that’s his bottom line

  8. The only way to get Rafa back is total boycott and not buying new strip
We have to make a stand enough is enough if no one turns up a the games that would give him a big headache and what will he do he can’t make you watch a match or buy season tickets
