Newcastle United have confirmed that 22-year-old midfielder Dan Barlaser has signed a new deal at the club.
The official announcement also reveals hat he will immediately link up with Rotherham, with him now set to spend the 2019/20 season with the League One side.
Barlaser enjoyed a successful loan spell in the same division with Accrington last season, scoring three goals in 39 appearances and putting in several eye-catching displays – one of which coming in the FA Cup vs Derby.
With that in mind, a part of me had hoped he would step up a level and find a temporary move to a bottom half Championship side, however the most important part of his time away will be regular game time – and he should receive that with Rotherham.
After all, Sean Longstaff’s only loan spell in England was in the third tier with Blackpool – and he didn’t turn out to bad!
The length of the contract signed at St James’ Park is not stated in the club’s announcement on NUFC.co.uk.
