Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has confirmed that our move for Steve Bruce has ‘hit a snag’, with Sheffield Wednesday said to be holding out for a fee ‘far greater’ than Newcastle originally expected.
Downie does admit that the deal is not off and is still ‘likely’ to happen, but states that the fee the Owls are demanding for Bruce AND his assistants is holding things up.
Here’s what he’s had to say on Twitter in the last few moments:
“Newcastle’s move for Steve Bruce has hit a snag, as Sheffield Wednesday hold out for a fee far greater than Newcastle originally expected. The Owls are holding out for significantly more for him & his assistants
“That doesn’t mean it’s off. Still likely to happen, but explains the hold-up.”
So, first we’re rejected by Sam Allardyce last week, and now we’re struggling to get a deal for Steve Bruce over the line.
Surely we knew the compensation costs involved before we made the approach? Surely we knew Sheffield Wednesday would be hugely reluctant to lose their manager just weeks before the season begins?
