NUFC agree Steve Bruce deal – Sheffield Wednesday fee revealed & move imminent – Report

According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle have paid £4m to Sheffield Wednesday today, with Steve Bruce now on his way to Tyneside to sign over the dotted line at St James’ Park.

It was claimed this morning that Bruce and his assistants had resigned despite no compensation deal being agreed, however it now looks like a deal has been struck.

That said, Nixon claims that Dejphon Chansiri may demand an additional sum for Newcastle to secure Bruce’s two right-hand men Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence – with fees for both yet to be agreed.

Here’s a snippet from his latest exclusive for the Sun:

NEWCASTLE owner Mike Ashley has paid £4 million to Sheffield Wednesday for Steve Bruce.

Ashley sent over the cash ahead of the appointment and Bruce plus his staff walked out before it was accepted.

Wednesday supremo Dejphon Chansiri is now likely to agree to the deal that compensates him for Bruce.

He could argue about an extra sum for his back room team.

Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence have left without their transfer fees being agreed. However that should not be a major issue.

Bruce is now on his way to Tyneside after a bitter end to his brief spell at Wednesday.

Chansiri has been given the cash up front and will now be able to find a new man in a hurry.

The Owls owner is likely to look for an out of work domestic boss to take over from Bruce.

He is fuming after backing him in his short stay and signing players for next season.

So, we’ve now paid more to get Steve Bruce – a washed up Championship manager and ex-Mackem – than we did to sign Fabian Schar last summer.

This summer gets more and more laughable by the minute, especially when you look at how we’ve handled this move for Bruce – a manager who’s forced a move out of a club that have been extremely good to him over the past few months.

Bruce is an awful appointment. I wish we’d looked elsewhere for a far more capable manager out of work (Sanchez Flores? Blanc? Van Bronckhorst?), however it’s probably time we cracked on with a few much needed signings given we’ve got a Championship squad, a Championship manager and only got 24 days until the summer window shuts.

  1. Probably Ashley has realised that no manager with integrity or ambition would ever sign for him so his options were limited.
