NUFC fans have 10 reasons to be frustrated – yet the most basic of them all is the biggest issue..

What is the most frustrating thing about being a Newcastle fan today?

I mean, it has always been quite frustrating to be honest – whether its throwing away a 12 point lead, 2 FA Cup finals or seeing Joe Kinnear being unveiled as manager – it has never been easy.

Yet, I think it is safe to say that we’re a decent bunch of fans, who try to enjoy it as mush as we can.

We’re loyal and we want to support our team.

But I’ll ask again – what is the most frustrating thing about being a Newcastle fan today?

  • Is it that the ‘proposed takeover’ collapsed / never existed?
  • Is it that we have very low ambition/pulling power in our search for a new manager?
  • Is it that Mike Ashley let Rafa go?
  • Is it that it the club is being asset stripped?
  • Is it that season ticket prices have gone up?
  • Is it that we have one of the most expensive (yet probably the most cheaply made) strips?
  • Is it that there is only a few weeks left and we’ve not made any signings?
  • Is it that we’ve made no attempt to re-sign our player of the season after a superb loan spell?
  • Is it the fact our most exciting young talent is now being tipped to join Man Utd?
  • Is it that an incompetent Lee Charnley appears to be in charge of getting transfers done?

I can tell you now it is ALL of them – but that’s not the main reason why we are frustrated.

We are frustrated by the absolute silence that has come from the club regarding all of those matters.

Why have the club stayed silent? A simple bit of communication would stop a lot of rumour, it may even generate some season ticket sales and it would definitely put a majority of the fan base at ease.

This lack of communication is not something new, I don’t think we have had a decent bit of communication since the days of Chris Mort. He jumped ship pretty quickly and it is pretty clear to see why.

However, to have the ignorance to be this quiet when so much uncertainty surrounds our club is both rude and disrespectful. It just makes me despise Ashley even more.

Does anyone have a theory as to why the club would let us stew in this big vat of uncertainty? Don’t we deserve a bit better? Or is this just Mike Ashley being Mike Ashley – a man who only cares about milking his cash cow, no matter how many people he hurts.

  1. Yep, all of the above, it’s beyond logic what’s gone on this summer. The strangest one yet, the fatmans ability to take a wrecking ball to us is quite something.
    Ashley out

  2. Just answer the questions, try telling the truth and end the silence your driving loyal fans away with your pr and lies. Please sell our club to someone who cares, a lot of fans have no respect for you the way we have been treated and i feel this is turning into all our hatered. Boycott boycott boycott ashleyoot

  4. Head coach not manager.

I can’t believe that after 12 years of Ashley ( a substantial part of my life as a fan) the fu cker has stooped as low as he has this summer. 3 weeks til Kick off, no signings only sales, replacing a world class manager with a Championship head coach and a takeover that has miraculously disappeared now he’s got what he wanted, in total silence. Unbelievable. And ‘our voice’ Charnley spouts effusive garbage about it all.

  5. Bruce was 11th choice and not on the original short list according to Sky ffs!!! I have now words!

I wonder if Penfold or Jabba ever wonder if that’s a sad indictment on them or that are so oblivious to what it actually says about them.

    Relegation an absolute shoe in.

  8. Just watched some Joelinton clips. The lad looks a decent player . . .. happy with him if he actually does sign.

  9. Joelinton to cost £36m. That’s not leaving much to spend on two full backs, another striker, a winger and a centre mid. That’s all in three weeks. Ignoring what needs replaced when sold like Hayden.

  10. I can confirm that I was number 10 on the list for the NUFC job. Lee Charnley said it was Ok that I had never coached a football team before and never even made it into my school 11 and can only do about 3 or 4 keepy uppies. He said the main thing was that I was cheap, but said he had other irons in the fire.

  11. Forgive me for not crying about Sheffield Wednesday’s compensation claims. Football teams sack Managers all of the time and nobody bats an eyelid. I am more worried that Bruce may not be good enough.

We could have got worse – Pardew, Kinnear, Carver, Shearer, McClaren.

  13. Rafa is not infallible.

DonkeyLu? I know he didn’t cost 36 million but Rafa played him nonetheless.

  14. In terms of how we get on next – I look at the 3 teams promoted – Norwich, Sheff Utd and Villa.

Norwich and SU – I don’t think their teams are good enough for the PL – and they haven’t recruited quality as yet. I’m not sure they are teams who will attract good enough players either.

Villa have started OK in the transfer window. I think they will be down there, but could be ok.

Existing PL sides I think you can’t look passed Brighton, Burnley and us for that 3rd relegation spot. Saints and Palace could go one way or another as well.

I think Bruce is probably good enough to keep us in the PL – depending on the players added this window. However, we have made it extremely difficult for ourselves imo.

It’s deeply disappointing, because with Rafa and maybe 5-6 additions to what we had, and I think we’d have been up there competing with the likes of Leicester, Wolves and Everton for the 7-10 places.

There’s talk Bruce could have up to £91m to spend – I reckon Rafa could have made his improvements spending half that, but with the condition that they could be of any age.

I don’t think this had anything to do with football. I think it was a battle of the control freaks – and Rafa was always going to loose.
Ashley is too pigheaded to back down for the greater good.

Ice , that lad has already signed so reckon it’s someone else, joe, maybe ?

  16. It makes me laugh why people in the media are even discussing whether Bruce can do a good job. It’s not possible under this regime.

  17. Anybody else find it odd that Bruce hasn’t done any interviews yet? If I was him the first thing i’d want to do is tell his side and get it out of the way. Face it head on. Maybe he’s enjoying being so far away from Newcastle!

Stu – if they can get the Joelinton deal done first, it’s a far better interview from the clubs point of view. They’ve broken the club transfer record twice in 2 windows.

WE know that’s trying to pave over cracks, but it’ll still be the clubs approach I bet.

      (Quote)

  20. They didn’t break the club transfer record with Almiron. It’s only over the record if he hits certain targets. But yeah I get what you’re saying but from Bruce’s point of view you would think he would want to hit this head on. If I was him i’d be saying “I know I am not a popular choice, I know i’m not first choice at the club, I know the owner is not popular, I know the fans are boycotting games, I know season ticket sales haven’t gone as well as usual, I know I am not Rafa and I haven’t won anything as a manager but despite all that and the fact I am unpopular I still took the job because it’s my club and I couldn’t pass up the chance again”.

aye mate you could be right.they may have to cancel it.deal held up dispute over contracts length

      (Quote)

  22. So Joelinton deal held up over length of contract. He wants 3 the club want 4. Why would anybody spend £36m on a player for just three years? Anyway, just tell him to sign a 6 year contract – it doesn’t really matter. First decent offer and he will be sold anyway.

Which is exactly why the player wants it, we are a stepping stone to a top club.

I’m fully expecting Longstaff to go late window too and possibly Dubs or and Schar.
Sick of this owner, he has to sell us .

  26. I have no idea what sort of football Bruce plays. We do not get Championship games in the US and before that he was at Hull and Sunderland l so I saw very little of him there as their games were hardly shown here either. When they were on TV it was against a top 4 team so even then it was hard to judge.

I read somewhere he likes fast strikers and you would think as an ex centre half he would organize the defence?

  27. What is this **** about Dubravka wanting to leave? Where is he going to go?

    Man U – De Gea
    Liverpool – Allison
    Spurs – Lloris
    Chelsea – transfer ban
    Man City – Ederson
    Arsenal – Leno
    Leicester – Schmeichel
    Everton – Pickford
    Wolves – Patricio

Seriously, where is he going to move to?

      (Quote)

  28. You have 1 goalie. And the top teams tend to play their number 1 in all PL games. Does Dubravka want his career to be like Michel Vorm? Or, closer to home Steve Harper? Play in the league cup?

      (Quote)

  29. Same with Longstaff. He has started 9 games. If he goes to Man U he will compete with Matic, McTominay and Fred for 1 midfield spot.

    If Pogba stays, he plays.

NUFC will give him a new contract and he can move next year. It would be stupid to do so at this point in his career.

      (Quote)

  30. If Pogba leaves, Man U will get a much higher profile replacement than Sean. So, fine, take the 75k a week to sit on the bench.

      (Quote)

  31. And Hayden? I think Uncle Steve might just put his arm around his shoulder and tell him the grass isn’t always greener. Brighton, Watford of Palace? Small clubs.

      (Quote)

  32. I am trying to convince myself that it is not as bad as people are making out. Keep the good players and swap Gayle for Perez, Joelinton for Rondon and add a winger and a fullback.

We played OK second half of last season so there is a bit of reason for optimism despite it all being doom and gloom and Olly joining in big time on that score.

      (Quote)

  33. A 22 year old Brazilian with 13 goals and 9 assists in 35 appearances in Germany would normally be reason for optimism? No?

      (Quote)

  34. I am done with all of the negativity now. We could have done a lot worse than Bruce. We have done a lot worse than Bruce, and recently. Rafa had his own agenda and left for the money as much as anything else.

The protest outside Sports Direct yesterday had 18 people at it. The organizers could not start a p!ss up in a brewery. Hopefully, the boycott will fall flat as well because I want Bruce to be given a chance and a toxic atmosphere helps nobody.

It won’t get rid of Ashley that’s for sure. And anybody that thinks otherwise is delusional.

      (Quote)

  35. Eric, a proper boycott hasn’t really been done yet, it enough did it for a long enough time i think it could get shot of him. He wouldn’t want an empty SJP every time we are televised and Sky and the PL wouldn’t like it either. Their brand is everything and an empty stadium looks poor, it would also reflect badly on MA and his tat empire.

Does anyone stay in a bad relationship, no not if they have any sense .

      (Quote)

  36. Oh and it’s newly promoted Villa that are reported to have designs on Dubs apparently.

      (Quote)

  37. Kimtoon: I don’t think that the NUST and Magpie Group have the sense to organize anything to get rid of Ashley which is why they will never get my support. All they do is create noise and a distraction and nothing they do is successful. In fact, it is usually a massive fail like yesterday outside SD on Northumberland Street, the “protest” at SJP on the day Rafa left and the 11th minute walk-in. There are too many disparate groups and they are all run by incompetents.

      (Quote)

  38. Kimtoon: I am not trying to pick a fight with you but I don’t think there will be a proper boycott because the organisers are incompetent and there are just too many groups and hashtags and social media wannabes to pull it all together.

Georgio, why wouldn’t he, they are showing far more ambition than us at present and maybe he sees us as a dead cert to drop more than them.

Kim – is he though, or is this the safest job Bruce has ever taken.
If you think about it, everyone expects him to fail and NUFC be relegated – so when that’s the expectation, anything else is success.

I really think Sheff Utd and Norwich will go straight back down.

All Bruce has to do is avoid that last relegation place and it’s success – based on where we are right now.

If Joelinton is the start of a few decent signings through the door, then who knows?!.

I’m not saying I would be satisfied with that – far from it.

But f@ck Ashley – I don’t want to see my club go the way of the mackems.

  42. I see the crew on Eds site are saying that this Joelinton deal is just to appease fans now that Raffa is gone. That is laughable as the club was looking at him back in January when Raffa was here.
If we get a few players in, I think we will be ok this season coming. Bruce is an underwhelming appointment but he is experienced enough to do the job required.

      (Quote)

  43. We need another 5 players to be at least one player better off than last season and 4 to stay as we were. I’ll be bob smacked if Mike Ashley’s NUFC can move as fast as is required.

      (Quote)

  44. Well it’s already started. Bruce said in his press conference this morning were looking at making a “couple of signings at least”. Jesus man alive! A couple! I’d say we need four at least and we’d still be behind what we had last season. Oh and “over the line” is back!

      (Quote)

  45. It’s remarkably quiet on the Joelinton signing. Not mentioned anywhere apart from very scant coverage in the Chronicle. The Germans are saying he’s passed his medical. Has he? Where?
No airport pics. Nothing . . . very odd for a record signing.

      (Quote)

  46. 5 hours later and I’m beginning to wonder if the Joelinton purchase is just like the BZG story – all a figment of Keith Bishop’s twisted mind.

    Where is everybody?

  47. Did we ever sign the young lad from Chelsea? Kyle Scott I think it was? Nothing about him or Joelinton… are we still attempting to get them “over the line”?

Rather comical too that Brucey doesn’t have a work visa for China so isn’t allowed to mange the team while there… Duh! ?

      (Quote)

  48. The latest story is they’re waiting to announce the Joelinton and Scott at the unveiling of the new away kit on Tuesday. I’m still very sceptical about the Joelinton story.

  49. Watching us against WHU in the Asia Cup – and i know it’s the 3rd place play off in a friendly – but if people judge against Wolves then it’s fair to comment on this game too.

What’s obvious is Muto is not a lone forward. He was played that way against Wolves and looked very isolated.
Today he’s up there with Sørensen, and even with Sorensens inexperience alongside him, he looks a far better player.

He’s definitely a second striker or number 10. With game time, he could be Perez.

Sørensen has good movement and should have scored in the first half.

Sterry is a stand out for me though. He already looks as good as Yedlin and better than Manquillo. With games under his belt, I think he could easily step into the first team imo.

      (Quote)

  50. Well nee wooden spoon ??

3rd behind Wolves and City was always a likely outcome even with Rafa and a centre forward.

We played ok today. Better in the first half, but WH never looked like scoring – I don’t remember Dúbravka making a save.
