?️ Steve Bruce speaks out as NUFC appointment is announced after Sheffield Wednesday exit

Steve Bruce has confessed there’s a ‘huge challenge’ ahead of him following his appointment at NUFC, but admits he’s ‘delighted’ and ‘incredibly proud’ to land the job at St James’ Park.

The 58-year-old also states that it’s his ‘boyhood club’ and the club supported by his late father, creating a ‘very special moment’ for both himself and his family.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say since signing a three-year deal with the club, saying both himself and his team are ready for the challenge ahead:

“I’m delighted and incredibly proud to be appointed as head coach of Newcastle United. This is my boyhood club and it was my dad’s club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family.

“There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it’s one that my staff and I are ready for. We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll be giving it everything from the off to ensure supporters have a successful team that they can be proud of.”

Both Bruce and his new coaches Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence are set to travel to China to meet up with the squad following our clash with Wolves today in our opening game of the Premier League Asia Trophy.

An underwhelming appointment to put it mildly and yet another unforgivable error from Mike Ashley.

It’s now time to get signing – with new additions being our only hope of staying up this season after selling our two top scorers and downgrading from Benitez to Bruce!

  3. Bruce is originally from Corbridge in Northumberland very much Newcastle United territory and the former Manchester United defender grew up as a magpies fan. However, he has denied saying that he ever wanted to manage the magpies after taking the helm of their deadliest rivals.

“Managing Newcastle has never been my dream” he explained to the Newcastle Chronicle

This opportunity at Sunderland has everything that I want. The infrastructure, the fanbase, an ambitious chairman and an ambition new owner. I don`t need anything else – I have everything here. Everything you look for as a manager is here at Sunderland, this is a big club with a big history and a long tradition.
