Mike Ashley receives huge threat from Sheffield Wednesday in extraordinary club statement – Read it here

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed in a club statement that there “remans outstanding legal issues to be resolved” between themselves and Newcastle following the appointment of Steve Bruce and his assistants at St James’ Park.

As a result, Sheffield Wednesday reveal that they are now threatening to take legal action against Mike Ashley.

Even by Mike Ashley’s standards, this could be a new low, with Newcastle United now facing legal action all because they were desperate to appoint Steve Bruce – a Championship-level manager who was not wanted by us fans.

Here’s how Sheffield Wednesday’s club statement reads in response to Steve Bruce’s appointment at Newcastle United.

The Club is disappointed to learn via public statement issued by Newcastle United that it has appointed former Sheffield Wednesday staff Steve Bruce, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

Regardless of the fact that the staff resigned from their positions with the Club on Monday, there remains outstanding legal issues to be resolved between the club and the staff and Newcastle United. The Club is currently considering its position and taking the appropriate legal advice.

No further comment will be made by the Club concerning this matter.

Just when you think our summer couldn’t stoop to new lows, we here this (not forgetting the fact we are 3-0 down to Wolves in China as I type).

Has Mike Ashley appointed Steve Bruce and his staff at Newcastle United without their consent and without an agreement in place? It looks that way.

The sad thing is, I was half expecting this given some of the underhand tactics that have been reported over the past week in our pursuit of Bruce.

What a mess. Let’s hope they take him to the cleaners!

  1. As a lifelong Wednesday fan (over 50 years) I have never, ever witnessed the kind of behaviour Mike Ashley has shown over the past few days in his bombastic attitude to those around him. He hasn’t taken into account anyone’s feelings but his own and it’s a crystal clear fact that he thinks that everyone around him is subservient to his demands.
He does not ask – he dictates and now N.U.F.C. has mud smeared all over them.
I honestly feel sorry for the supporters of Newcastle United. You are as rightly passionate about your club as we are of ours.
We here at Wednesday feel absolutely terrible in the way we have been treated given the fair, patient and sympathetic manner we welcomed Bruce to Hillsborough but at least we can hold our heads up and say we have done nothing wrong.
I sincerely hope that this can all be sorted out amicable – but I genuinely fear that worse is to follow…

I totally agree with you Andy we have been putting up with this sort of **** for the last 12 years and I honestly hope your lot take this horrendous piece of **** known as Ashley to the cleaners . I am just amazed that the FA have not stepped in to sort this out because Ashley is not a fit and proper person to be owner of a Premier League Club he is a hated Man..

  3. The statement from Sheffield Wednesday is a masterpiece combining all the situation’s relevant information with brevity. If you read between the lines the statement speaks volumes. From the little we know of Mr Chansiri he will be deeply upset and offended by the lack of respect shown to him personally as a fellow Chairman and SWFC by Mr Ashley and NUFC. The statement seems to contain the message that whilst the people concerned have tendered their resignations the resignations have not been accepted and as such there are issues of breach of contract to resolve so announcements about new appointments are premature. No doubt the possible issue of inappropriate approaches to a serving manager is also under consideration. This one is far from over and may cost Mr Ashley and possibly SWFC’s former employees dearly before it’s over. That may be why there is no movement in the compensation figure being sought by SWFC.

  4. If the compensation is 5m, and Bruce is sued for breach of contract, it will take him 5 years to pay it off and 10,000 a week wages that fatty is paying him! ????

  5. Ashley should realise that Mr Chansiri will not like or understand the apparent lack of respect, he doesn’t when his own fans show any hint of it. I’ve read one article suggesting that SWFC are now asking for players plus cash: beautiful, love it!!
