FOUR strikers offered to Newcastle – & club showing interest in TWO wingers – Reporter

The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas has claimed that Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck, Andy Carroll and Charlie Austin have all been offered to Newcastle United this summer.

He believes many of these are non-starters based on age or/and wage demands, but feels there’s a chance Andy Carrol arrives outside of the transfer window on on a ‘low basic wage’ with appearance-based bonuses IF he proves his fitness.

It’s also worth noting that the Chronicle’s editor suggests that Hull City star Jarrod Bowen IS a player we’re looking at, along with strongly-linked Nice star Allan Saint-Maximin.

Here’s what Mark Douglas had to say on the Everything is Black and White podcast after confirming the club have been offered Welbeck, Sturridge, Austin and Carroll:

“They’ve been offered those players.

“The Andy Carroll thing happened a the weekend. But that wouldn’t be until later on and maybe until after transfer window shuts because he’s not fit yet.

“Welbeck? I think that’s unlikely because he’ll be after a huge amount of money.

“Sturridge? I don’t think that’s going to happen either.

“But they’re all free agents so it gives you the option after the window is finished to look at them.

“Those players come with massive wages. So, Carroll potentially if it’s on a case by case basis and he’s on a low basic wage and then gets appearance money.

“Austin? I can’t see that. I think they’ll be more likely to get Joelinton and a striker with some Premier League experience or someone from abroad.”

Douglas also hints that there’ll be ‘two or three’ more signings this summer, stating that the club do have a few players lined up, but fearing they will have to sell (and may not have enough time) to sign the four of five needed in what remains of the transfer window.

If I had to predict what happens between now and transfer deadline, I’d back us to sign Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin, or or two players on loan (with two domestic deals available tow us ) and a full-back.

How do you see it panning out between now and deadline day in just over two weeks time?

  1. Carrol would be a backward step but Welbeck or sturridge are definitely worth a. shot

  2. More dodgy use of the word “admitted” Olly.

    verb
past tense: admitted; past participle: admitted
Confess to be true or to be the case, typically with reluctance.
“the office finally admitted that several prisoners had been injured”

How is Douglas in a position to “admit” anything about the club? That would suggest that he actually knows something.
