Mike Ashley holds 'transfer meeting' with Steve Bruce at training ground - New signings imminent?

by Olly Hawkins ·

As confirmed by several north-east reporters in the last few moments, it's emerged that Mike Ashley has just left the club's training ground after a meeting with Steve Bruce.

Lee Charnley was also in attendance according to Lee Ryder, with Joelinton's arrival and 'further potential deals' said to have been discussed in the lunchtime 'transfer meeting'.

This comes just a day after the club smashed their transfer record with the £40m signing of Brazilian striker Joelinton, however the noises in the media today are that another deal is close to completion.

The Chronicle claimed yesterday that the club plan to announce a second signing before the weekend, the Telegraph's Luke Edwards has stated on Twitter that another deal is 'close' and the Shields Gazette reported this morning that club officials were out of the country last night to finalise a move for a 'winger'.

Now, local reporters Lee Ryder and Craig Hope have just confirmed that Mike Ashley has been on Tyneside, with him meeting Steve Bruce earlier today:

Usually this should be standard practice, with two men turning up to work and speaking to each other, however it's hard to ignore the fact that Mike Ashley RARELY pays a visit to the club's training ground, with Rafa admitting that he rarely say the NUFC owner during his three years on Tyneside.

Make of this what you will, but I suspect his appearance could signal more movement on the transfer front - and there needs to be given the window shuts 2 weeks tomorrow!

Either that or he's come along to say hello to the man 'he' has paid £40m to sign just yesterday, with Joelinton spotted taking part in training for the first time today:

Either way, it sounds like a new signing it on its way - and it can't be the last in what must be an active next 15 days for the club if we're to head into the new season remotely prepared.
