NUFC set to sign winger in next ’48 hours’ – & no.1 target has been revealed – Report

According to the Shields Gazette, Newcastle are ‘on the verge’ of signing a winger after club representatives flew out of the country last night to finalise the deal.

Ross Gregory’s latest piece also claims that Nice star Allan Saint-Maximin is the club’s ‘no.1 target’ – suggesting he may be the man that’s due to sign at St James’ Park.

Here’s a snippet from the Shields Gazette’s latest piece, which claims our second summer signing looks set to arrive ‘in the next 48 hours’:

Newcastle United are set to complete their second signing of the summer in the next 48 hours – with Allan Saint-Maximin their No1 target.

The Gazette understands the Magpies are on the verge of signing a winger with club representatives having flown out of the country last night to complete the deal.

Saint-Maximin is understood to be available for around £20million.

The 22-year-old shares Brazilian striker Joelinton’s agent, after he became Newcastle’s record signing after completing his £40million-move to Tyneside yesterday.

Saint-Maximin triggered more speculation that he is following Joelinton to St James’s Park by some of his photos on Instagram last night.

If it is Saint-Maximin, Newcastle will be landing a player who has plenty of pace and potential but who has question marks surrounding his attitude and consistency.

Newcastle had identified a winger as one of their key areas to strengthen this summer along with an attacking left-back. They are also looking to sign another striker.

Allan Saint-Maximin is an electric but frustrating talent, being a player with real pace, flair and skills – yet someone who has been criticised for his attitude and final product.

Interestingly, this comes just a few days after Martin Hardy claimed that Newcastle were preparing a spending spree that would see us sign ‘two or three’ new players by the ‘middle of this week’.

Considering Joleinton has already signed and there’s now strong claims that a winger is all set to sign over the coming days, it looks like he may have been right!

Here’s hoping.
