Steve Bruce exposed as tragic comments from Sunderland spell come back to haunt him

After claiming he’s now ‘living the dream’ after his appointment at Newcastle United, some pretty unfortunate Steve Bruce comments have re-emerged from his time at Sunderland.

The ‘Geordie’ has been absolutely full of it following his arrival as our new head coach, and who could blame him given his days as a Premier League manager looked long gone, however he’s changed his tune significantly when you look back on what he had to say during his time on Wearside 10 years ago.

Here’s what Bruce had to say about managing Newcastle back in 2009 – comments which totally contradict what he’s now saying a decade later after landing his ‘dream’ job:

Steve Bruce 2009 – (Sunderland’s manager)

“Managing Newcastle has never been my dream.

“This opportunity at Sunderland has everything I want – the infrastructure, the fanbase, an ambitious chairman and an ambitious new owner.

“I don’t need anything else – I have everything here. Everything you look for as a manager is here at Sunderland.”

Steve Bruce 2019 – (NUFC ‘head coach’)

“To be given the opportunity now, I’m like any other Geordie. I’ve lived the dream.

“If you can’t play for them then of course, if you’re a Geordie, what better thing than to take the No 1 seat.”

Some will say ‘give him a chance’, or ‘stop dragging up the past’, but it’s fair to say these comments won’t sit well with most Newcastle United fan given he’s totally milked the fact he’s a ‘Geordie’ and ‘local lad’ since landing this ‘dream job’ at NUFC.

I hope he proves me wrong and manages to keep us up over the coming season, but you have to question his Geordie status based on A) his decision to join our closest rivals and B) the remarks he made about NUFC during his spell at the Stadium of Light.

  4. Before the ridiculous hatred between supporters, that has go a lot worse in recent years, many players played for both clubs and nobody was bothered as long as they did their best for the team. This rivalry has gone to far by both sets of supporters.

  6. I wondered where the “suport the team not the regime” fans congregated to fawn after Ashley and Sports Direct Utd. Now don’t leave the game early and shout abuse.??

  7. Well, well, start of last season we lost 10 in a row, and we never left early even through Rafa’s football was rubbish ,who did you blame for that ?. Good thing is you people won’t be there to support the team, and the real fans won’t miss you, so you can all sit at home, complaining.

  8. Have to be honest – a bit shocked and disappointed by this article – and the photo of Bruce in the Sunderland coat to stir things up a bit.

The comments he made are pretty self explanatory really.

An unnecessary article in my opinion mate.

  9. Have to agree with the majority on here this article belongs on a site like the mag and it’s toxic environment.
It’s getting more and more obvious that this site is all about the click bait which is a shame really got way too many of those to start with.

BT/SKY have already bought the viewing rights. So whether yousubscribe or not makes no difference, and next time the rights are up for grabs, you not paying your subs will take less than half a penny out of Ashleys pocket.

Yeah mate – you’re really showing him who’s in charge.

  12. Come on Olly – what do you expect Bruce to say when he’s been given the Sunderland job?

“Aaye, whey ah’d prefer to be at Newcassell but they divvent want us. Might a well let the Mackems put bread on me table till summit betta comes along”?

No manager in the history of football has ever given a quote saying he’d rather be somewhere else.

  13. Are you all forgetting what ashlie is he is terrified of a boycott and is doing his best to stop it yes support the team but boycott first game of season to show him he’s not welcome let the football world see this or continue to be the laughing stock of football a pathetic joke of a club willingly giving ashlie your money with nothing in return really are we that thick you never know watching in pubs and clubs might be a better experience when we’re live on sky nothing to loose every thing to gain ashlie ooooot boycott boycott boycott boycott

You miss the point completely as usual 😉 the guy is constantly banging on about boycotting all things that makes Ashley money. As for the really showing him who’s boss is it not the same as anything you boycott of his I’m sure you no longer buying your tat from SD has him worried about his empire but if enough do it it makes a difference.my whole point is don’t have a go at people unless you do exactly what you say i.e. boycotting all things that make him money.

  15. Oh my God.

All you people reacting like you are on this post:

Say hello to Ashley for me!

God **** fake accounts. Or actual culture lacking mackems.

A few of you said that he (Bruce) had no choice but saying what he said being in said situation.

    Are you f**** kidding me?!

A person is judged by the reactions and honesty in life. Not by what is done in the name of the norm and tradition.

This club is surviving ONLY for the reason a big part of the ‘supporters’ have as much integrity as the fat ******* himself.

    Boycott all home games.
    Stand up for the club.
Football has no place for conformity.
