Bruce eyes 4 new signings – Saint-Maximin lined up & big Sean Longstaff claims emerge

Steve Bruce has confirmed that the club are looking to sign at least ‘three or four‘ players – also admitting our interest in Allan Saint-Maximin and insisting that Sean Longstaff will NOT be sold this summer.

This comes after some fans (including myself!) were left slightly concerned after he stated the club were hoping to get ‘one or two’ in before the transfer window closes, however it seems that was just a poor turn of phrase on his part.

That said, one of the biggest boosts of the summer would be to see Sean Longstaff stay – and Bruce seems absolutely adamant about the club’s plans to resist any offers from Man Utd.

As revealed by the Chronicle, here’s what he’s had to say on the transfer front as we head into the final 2 weeks of the summer window:

“We have lost about six players, I’m not saying we will get six in but the crucial thing is that they are at the right quality.

“We are at the stage now that can you get the quality that takes you forward. Ideally we would like another three or four but numbers I can’t really put on it because one or two always fall away. But we will do our upmost.”

“I had the conversation and there was money to spend. It was all positive in that respect. There is proof already,”

The Chronicle also stated that the club are eyeing deals for another striker, a winger, a central midfielder and a full-back, but time is not on our side.

Bruce then responded to claims Allan Saint-Maximin was ‘on the verge’ of signing at St James’ Park.

He played down talk that the deal was imminent, but confirmed that he was a target for the club – meaning any move for the 22-year-old is very much one to watch over the coming days:

“I don’t think it’s on the verge of happening but it’s somebody we have looked at, it’s somebody we have identified and we will see what happens,”

Finally, Bruce gave a bullish response to questions about Sean Longstaff’s future, stating he’s very confident he won’t be going anywhere this summer.

“We don’t want to sell our best young players, so that won’t happen.

“I’m very confident of that.”

Good to hear, on all fronts.

Now – time for less talk and more action!
