Lee Ryder reveals what’s holding up Saint-Maximin deal & says 22-goal star wants NUFC move

According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Nice are standing firm on their £20m valuation of Allan Saint-Maximin – while Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen is said to be keen on a move to St James’ Park.

On Saint-Maximin, Ryder states that we are yet to submit an acceptable offer for the 22-year-old, but insists that we are still looking to sign the Frenchman – despite the fact he’s been included in their squad for tomorrow’s pre-season clash with Cardiff.

So, it seems we’re keen to sign him, but are intent on haggling on price and landing him for a fee below their £20m price tag. The Joelinton deal may have suggested we’re now happy to spend big, however this sounds like classic Newcastle United regarding what should be a fairly simple deal for Saint-Maximin.

Meanwhile, Lee Ryder claims that Hull City star Jarrod Bowen would be keen on a move to Newcastle United this summer.

He appears to be a potential alternative to Saint-Maximin, with the Chronicle stating that Bruce is an admirer of the right-winger who bagged an impressive 22 Championship goals last season.

  1. I think we’ve offered something like £15m for the Saint, they want £20m.
We want the player, the player wants to come and they want to sell – so I suspect we’ll meet somewhere in the middle.

As for Bowen, I would love to see him come in as well, but I think either Atsu or Murphy would have to go to get him in as well.

  2. Bowen might be the safer option in any case. From what I’ve heard about Saint Max he could very well be more trouble than he’s worth in terms of consistency.
