According to RMC, Newcastle have submitted an improved offer of €18m (£16m) for Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
The French outlet states that this bid is €2m (£1.8m) higher than our initial bid, with them stating that we had a €16m (£14m) move rejected by the Ligue 1 side two days ago.
RMC claim that Nice are yet to respond to our latest offer, but do say that their intention has been to receive the €20m asking price (£18m) they’ve set for the 22-year-old winger.
If these claims are true, we appear to be edging closer to Nice’s valuation, however it is so frustrating to see us taking our time over a deal and haggling on price when there’s still several key deals left for us to complete in the 13 days of the transfer window that remain.
Hopefully Nice agree to this compromise, although the fact they’ve included the winger in their squad for tomorrow’s pre-season friendly at Cardiff suggests to me that there may be some gamesmanship going on here.
With him set to be in the UK over the weekend, let’s hope we can finally get a deal tied up!
