According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Steve Bruce is planning to make a £5m bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy – with the club also negotiating a cut-price move for Swedish international right-back Emil Krafth.
Starting with McCarthy, Nixon claims that the Irish midfielder is available at a knock-down fee after entering the final year of his current contract at Everton, stating that Bruce is keen to bolster his midfielder options.
The piece also states that the 28-year-old would be keen to make the move to Tyneside, but also has interest from Crystal Palace.
He’s approaching his 30’s and has been very injury prone over the past few years, but this *might* be a deal Ashley would sanction if he was signed on the cheap.
Then to Krafth.
The Chronicle confirmed that we’d sent scouts to watch the Amiens right-back in a friendly with Hull earlier this week, and Nixon reports that we’re currently trying to push through a cut-price deal for the 24-year-old Swede:
What’s bizarre about this story is the fact he claims a £1m deal is being discussed – despite the fact Amiens paid double that to sign him permanently following a successful loan spell in France last season.
