Newcastle are interested in versatile Man Utd defender Axel Tuanzebe according to the Daily Mail – but they claim a deal hinges on Harry Maguire’s move to Old Trafford.
Steve Bruce signed the 21-year-old on loan last summer prior to his sacking at Aston Villa, and the Mail now claim that he’s ‘keen’ to be reunited with the highly-rated defender at St James’ Park.
That said, it seems Man Utd will only sanction his exit once they have completed a deal for Harry Maguire, with them lacking options at centre-back after Eric Bailly suffered a serious knee injury over pre-season:
Tuanzebe can operate both at centre-back and at full-back, meaning he could be a decent loan signing who could fill in at right-back or as part of a three-man defence.
The 6ft’ defender has been capped by England at U-21, U-20 and U-19 level and has featured regularly in Man Utd’s pre-season plans so far this summer.
While it’s not made clear in the Mail’s piece, this would almost certainly be a loan deal should he become available over the next week, with Solksjaer recently claiming that he was a future star at Old Trafford.
