According to some surprise claims from leading Turkish outlet TRT Spor, Newcastle are ‘close’ to signing Lille’s Edgar Ie.
This one comes totally out of the blue and must be taken with a pinch of salt for now, however TRT Spor claim that a €5m (£4.5m) deal is now in place for the versatile defender.
Ie is a 25-year-old right-back who can operate at left-back AND centre-back, being a former Barcelona youth product who’s been capped by Portugal at every level from U-18’s to the senior side.
As revealed below, TRT Spor claim that Ie’s arrival could be part of a slightly bizarre and complex deal that involves Turkish side Trabzonspor – who are close to selling star man Yusuf Yazici to Lille.
They claim that Trabzonspor will receive 50% of the fee Lille are receiving for Ie, suggesting this has been offered in a bid to complete a deal for Yazici (very odd I know!):
This one would be a surprise signing and one totally out of the blue, however the fact he’s 25, available at a reasonable fee and able to play at right-back and centre-back suggests it could be decent value for money.
Could he be an alternative to Emil Krafth – the Amiens right-back we’ve had bids rejected for according to reports.
There may be something it in, with these being some big claims from one of Turkey’s leading outlets, however this one could just as easily be shot down by local press in the coming hours.
Time will tell!
