‘Exclusive’ claims Bruce wants Mike Ashley to sign Bournemouth, Everton & Aston Villa trio

According to an ‘exclusive’ from the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Steve Bruce wants to sign Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady, Everton’s James McCarthy and Bournemouth winger Jordan Ibe.

It’s an underwhelming link to say the least, but it was only a matter of time until Bruce was tipped to make a move for Elmohamady – a player he’s had during spells at Hull, Aston Villa and Sunderland!

That said, Nixon’s piece claims he’s struggling to convince Mike Ashley to buy ‘older’ players, with the Villa right-back and Everton midfielder being 31 and 28 respectively.

We may need new options at right-back, but an ageing Elmohamady would not be the answer. A move for McCarthy could be a shrewd one, but I don’t see Ashley sanctioning a move for a injury prone player who turns 29 in a few months time.

The Sun’s ‘exclusive’ also tips us to make a surprise move for Bournemouth winger Jordan Ibe over the final few days of the transfer window, suggesting he’ll be available, however this wouldn’t make much sense from a footballing perspective.

Not only does Ibe not appear to fit into our 3-5-2 formation, he’s been poor at Bournemouth and wouldn’t be much of an upgrade on the likes of Atsu or Aarons.

Nixon claims Bruce has ‘had problems with the way his scouting team look for younger talent’, saying he’s keen to sign a few ‘more mature players’, but I don’t think he’ll be complaining too much after seeing exciting young talents Joelinton and Saint-Maximin come through the door!
