Journalist claims surprise NUFC player could complete loan exit in next 4 days - Surely not?

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to Lee Ryder, Javier Manquillo could yet leave on loan over the final 4 days of the transfer window - despite his impressive pre-season performances.

We know Bruce must trim his 25-man squad, with the likes of Lazaar, Murphy, Colback and Saivet seeming likely the most likely candidates to leave in the coming days, however it would be a slight surprise to see Manquillo go.

He may have been a real squad player over the past two seasons, but with Yedlin yet to play all summer following surgery and us yet to sign a new right-back, it would make no sense to ship out Manquillo.

Not only did he fill in very well for Yedlin over the final few weeks of the 2018/19 season, he's been one of our stand out players in our last two pre-season wins over Hibernian and St-Ettiene.

Nevertheless, Lee Ryder believes Manqullo could yet leave if we sign Swedish right-back target Emil Krafth:

“Bruce still eyeing Sweden defender Emil Krafth but admits he may have to wield axe to whittle down 25-man squad.

"Lazaar, Murphy and even in-form Manquillo could yet be on the outgoing loan list.”

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm hoping we keep him!

He may be limited, but he's looked good in that right wing-back role - a position that allows him to carry the ball forward more and put crosses into the box (as he did well for Joelinton's goal at Hibs).

Considering Yedlin's not had a pre-season and any new right-back would take time to settle, it would be a silly move for me.
