Carroll ready to take ‘major wage cut’ at NUFC – but deal will hinge on one key issue – Reports

According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Andy Carroll’s wage demands will NOT be an issue for Newcastle United, with the player happy to take a ‘major wage cut’ to seal a return to St James’ Park.

His piece states that the player is desperate to join, with Bruce also a big admirer of the striker, however the Echo’s Scott Wilson says he’s been told the deal with ‘stand or fall’ on medical checks.

Here’s what he’s had to say in response to claims Carroll is closing in on a return, suggesting it may all hinge on an assessment from the club’s medical team:

“On the Andy Carroll front, I’m told the deal will almost certainly stand or fall on the NUFC medical team’s assessment of the striker’s reconstructive ankle surgery….”

So, the club seem keen to bring him back – something that’s seemed clear for some time now – Bruce likes him and Carroll is ‘desperate’ to return to his boyhood club, so it looks like it really will all come down to his fitness.

I had wondered if wage demands or an agreement over a contract could be an issue – with a low basic wage and a ‘pay as you play’ type deal mentioned, however it does not sound like there’s any major issues on that front.

Would you be happy to bring him back IF he passes a medical?
