Ex-NUFC duo have contracts ‘terminated’ 2 years on from 2017 exits – & one has a new club already

Ex-NUFC duo Vurnon Anita and Daryl Murphy have had their contracts terminated by mutual consent by Leeds United and Nottingham Forest respectively.

The pair were released by Newcastle United in 2017 and soon secured Championship moves to Leeds and Forest that summer, however the pair have now been moved on once again after mixed spells in the second tier.

Daryl Murphy – who has just joined Bolton Wanderers – did a good job for Forest, with the 36-year-old being involved in 16 goals in 60 appearance, however Anita’s time at Leeds was a struggle from start to finish.

The Dutchman arrived at Elland Road on a free two years ago and, after failing to impress or nail down a regular place in their side across the 2017/18 season, he was then loaned out to Eredivisie side Willem II last summer.

He’s now been released this week and is without a club as things stand, unlike Murphy who’s set to spend the season in League One with Bolton.

Good luck to them. They were never world beaters, but both were honest pros who often did solid jobs for Newcastle when called upon.
