Journalist claims NUFC star could be left out of Steve Bruce’s side vs Liverpool on Saturday

The Shields Gazette’s Miles Starforth claims Miguel Almiron could be left out of Steve Bruce’s starting line up ahead of Saturday’s trip to Anfield.

Considering the Paraguayan finally grabbed his first international goal this week, many will be wondering just why this would happen, however it’s emerged that the 25-year-old is likely to report back on Friday – just hours before our early kick off at Anfield on Saturday lunch time.

This comes after a pretty gruelling international break for the winger, with him starting in Japan last week and then playing the full 90 in Jordan just 24 hours ago.

Not only that, he looked in some pain after scoring for his country on Tuesday night (see below), colliding with the opposition goalkeeper and holding his knee in agony just moments after finding the net.

He managed to finish the game and it’s since been claimed that he suffered no major injury, but Starforth insists that Bruce won’t be including him in his starting XI this weekend until he’s been fully assessed upon his return.

I’d expect him to start given our lack of available options out wide, but he has played 180 minutes over the past weeks and will have clocked up plenty air miles in the meantime.

That said, after rushing Saint-Maximin back and suffering the consequences, Bruce may be reluctant to take any big risks if Almiron isn’t 100%.
