Steve Bruce has confirmed that Sean Longstaff will miss tomorrow’s game at Liverpool after suffering an injury in training yesterday.
The NUFC head coach has described it as a ‘freak injury’, claiming a ball ‘hit him and rocked his ankle’, however he does not believe it’s ‘too serious’.
Here’s what the 58-year-old has had to say on the injury during his pre-match press conference in the last few moments:
“Unfortunately, Sean Longstaff turned his ankle over yesterday in training – one of those freak injuries where a ball hit him and rocked his ankle.
“We don’t think it’s too serious but he’s certainly not available for Saturday.”
“We won’t know how severe it is for a couple of days.”
A disappointing blow ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Anfield – the ground Sean made his Premier League debut at last season.
As a result, you’d expect Jonjo Shelvey to come into the midfield, however the likes of Ki Sung-yeung and Matty Longstaff will also be midfield options for Bruce.
Considering he’s not long returned from a season-ending knee injury, let’s hope (and pray!) this one doesn’t keep him out for long.
