It’s been a disappointing start to the season for our senior side, and it hasn’t been much better for our U-23’s.
A 2-1 defeat at West Brom yesterday was Neil Redfearn’s fourth loss in his first 6 games in the Premier League 2 this season, however there has been one shining light so far – and that’s Tom Allan.
The 20-year-old right-winger was included in pre-season training sessions with the first team and has been in good goal scoring form over the past month, scoring four goals in his last four games for the u-23’s.
Allan scored twice in the U-23’s 2-1 win over Fulham last month, bagged the winner in our 3-2 victory over Norwich last week and found the net once again this week in our 2-1 defeat against West Brom.
As the Premier League 2 table below highlights, we’re currently fourth bottom and struggling badly at the back, with Reading and Man Utd beating us 6-0 and 4-0 respectively in August:
The young Mags have conceded 17 goals in 6 games so far, but the form of Tom Allan has been promising at the other end, with the likes of Luke Charmnan, Yannick Toure, Rosaire Longelo and Victor Fernandez also giving us a few capable options in attack.
